Poland and Vietnam have raised their relations to the level of a strategic partnership. This was announced on Monday in Hanoi, during a visit by Prime Minister Donald Tusk that concludes his trip to Asia. Earlier, Tusk held talks in New Delhi with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Both countries aim to reach mutual investment worth $6 billion by 2030. A joint committee on trade and investment has been set up. Poland is seeking better conditions for food exports and investment in pharmaceuticals, IT and green technology. Tusk also highlighted the EU–Vietnam free trade agreement as an opportunity for businesses.

Vietnam will consider visa-free travel for Poles. A year ago it already waived visas for Polish tourists. LOT plans a direct Warsaw–Hanoi route in the first quarter of 2027. A tourism agreement was also signed, and the number of scholarships for students and researchers will rise from 20 to 50. Defence and cybersecurity are to become a new pillar of cooperation. A business round table was scheduled for Monday.

What it means for you

For Polish food and technology companies, including those operating from the UK, Vietnam may become an easier market. A direct flight will shorten business and leisure trips. For now, however, these are declarations and frameworks for cooperation, not concrete contracts.

Our assessment

A strategic partnership opens doors but does not guarantee sales. We believe the biggest real benefit for small firms will be the LOT flight and possible visa facilitation. Trade results will take at least a year to show.
