PiS leader Jarosław Kaczyński spoke in Krynica about reforming the European Union and, as a last resort, about talks on leaving it. Prime Minister Donald Tusk replied that he would not lose the fight over Poland’s place in the EU. Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski listed the consequences, including passport checks at airports.
The Senate changed the act on aid for energy-intensive businesses worth PLN 4.8bn. The money will go proportionally to all eligible businesses, without competitions. The act returns to the Sejm, and the Presidential Palace is signalling a possible veto.
The interior ministry wants to tighten the rules for granting Polish citizenship: longer residence, Polish at B2 level, a test on knowledge of Poland and a loyalty declaration. Citizenship obtained by deception could be revoked at any time. Poles who are citizens by birth are not affected.
Saudi Aramco is considering selling its assets in Poland, including a 30% stake in the Gdańsk Refinery. State Assets Minister Wojciech Balczun says this could be an opportunity to bring them back into Polish hands. The government is waiting for the Saudis’ position, and Orlen is leading the talks. For now this does not affect pump prices.
Poland’s Ministry of Finance has prepared a draft regulation on access to KSeF. Tokens that businesses use to log in to the e-invoicing system are to work after 1 January 2027 as well. A new KSeF certificate and a bulk identifier for paying several invoices in one transfer will be added. This also matters for Poles in the UK running a business in Poland.
Poland will get a service centre for the latest PAC-3 MSE missiles for the Patriot system. The government announced the successful talks on 27 October, and the defence minister calls it the first step towards producing Patriots in the country. The location and construction timetable have not yet been set.
The Ministry of National Defence says military qualification in 2027 will run from 1 February to 30 April. Up to 245,000 people will appear before the boards, mainly men born in 2008, as well as some women with training useful to the armed forces. We explain what this means for young Poles in the UK.
The Council of Ministers has adopted a draft amendment to the reimbursement law. Over-the-counter medicines are to be removed from reimbursement, a definition of an orphan medicine is introduced, and there is a new route for funding therapy. Applications to import medicines can be made via the Internet Patient Account. The draft now goes to the Sejm.
The Ministry of Justice wants to limit the free-credit sanction to the most serious bank errors and, for minor breaches, only require a refund of the fee. UOKiK will get a bigger role in penalising banks. The draft of the new consumer credit act is due at the beginning of December.
The reshuffle of Donald Tusk’s government is gathering pace. According to Rzeczpospolita, Szymon Hołownia wants to become culture minister with the rank of deputy prime minister, and the Left has no objection. A dispute over the EU funds ministry and the wait for the president’s decision on Andrzej Domański also continue.
