Scams, disinformation and warnings – we check the facts.
Businesses with PKO BP accounts are receiving emails about a supposed duty to update their documentation. CERT Polska and CERT Orange Polska warn: this is phishing. The link leads to a fake iPKO biznes page, and the fraudsters want your password and SMS code. This also affects Polish businesses and people in the UK with accounts in Poland.
From 1 October 2026 household electricity bills carry no VAT, which according to GOV.UK saves about £45 a year on average. Gas still carries 5% VAT, and the Ofgem price cap rose by 4%. That is why the slogan “no VAT on energy” is misleading.
Ahead of the Self Assessment deadlines, texts “from HMRC” are circulating about tax refunds or a cryptoasset declaration, asking for personal or bank details.
