In its evening forecast for Monday 26 October, the Met Office, the UK’s national weather service, warns of another wave of rain and strong winds. After Storm Boelo, the weather is still not settling down.

Heavy rain is moving east through the evening. It will reach south-east England by the early hours. Heavy showers will move through Scotland overnight. The night will be mild: between 9 and 13 degrees.

On Tuesday morning the wind will pick up markedly. In the worst-hit parts of Scotland gusts could reach 70mph (about 113km/h). During the day the strongest winds will move further north.

Tuesday will start wet in the south-east. Heavy showers will push through the north. Elsewhere there will be sunshine and showers, and it will stay blustery all day. The forecast is presented by Honor Criswick.

What it means for you

If you live or work in Scotland, Tuesday morning may bring train and ferry delays and disruption on the roads. Van and lorry drivers should take care on bridges and exposed stretches. In south-east England the morning commute and school run may be wet and slower. Construction and gardening firms should secure equipment and scaffolding.
