J.P. Morgan is the largest bank in the US and one of the biggest employers in the UK financial sector. After the third quarter of 2026 it has $5.1 trillion in assets. In London it is planning a new headquarters for 12,000 people. Its blockchain unit Kinexys settles an average of $7 billion a day. We look at what this means for Polish businesses in the UK.

The facts

  • Q3 2026 results (published 13.10.2026): net profit $15.3 billion, revenue $50.2 billion, assets $5.1 trillion. The CET1 capital ratio is 13.9%. This is a measure of a bank’s safety; the higher it is, the bigger the buffer against losses.
  • Reach: the bank serves companies, institutions and individual customers in more than 100 countries.
  • United Kingdom: London-based J.P. Morgan Securities plc and J.P. Morgan Europe Limited. Large offices in London (Canary Wharf), Bournemouth, Glasgow and Edinburgh. According to available data, about 23,000 people work for it in the UK.
  • Chase UK is a digital bank for individual customers, operating since September 2021. At the end of 2025 it had more than 2.5 million customers and over £26 billion in deposits.
  • New London headquarters: in November 2025 the bank announced plans for a 3 million sq ft tower in Canary Wharf for up to 12,000 staff.
  • Kinexys (formerly Onyx) is the bank’s blockchain unit. According to the bank, it has processed more than $4 trillion in total, an average of $7 billion a day. Its deposit token JPM Coin (JPMD) has run on the Base network since November 2025 and on Ethereum since 19.10.2026.

What came before

1854 – Junius Spencer Morgan begins banking in London.

2010 – the bank buys 25 Bank Street in Canary Wharf for its European headquarters.

2020 – the Onyx blockchain unit is created (Kinexys since 2024).

September 2021 – Chase UK launches.

November 2025 – plan for a new London headquarters; JPM Coin on Base.

October 2026 – Q3 results and JPM Coin on Ethereum.

What has changed

A bank that for years built a closed network just for itself is moving to public networks. At the same time it is increasing its investment in the UK. For London it is an important signal: the biggest player in finance is staying and expanding.

TBT analysis – conclusions

J.P. Morgan sets the standard that other banks and regulators watch. When the largest bank moves corporate payments onto blockchain, tokenisation stops being an experiment. It becomes part of the financial infrastructure.

For a small business in the UK, the change will come indirectly: faster international transfers, round-the-clock settlement and automatic payments on delivery of goods. The advantage, however, remains with large players. They are the ones with access to these services today.

Risks

  • Concentration: the bigger the bank, the greater the impact of its problems on the whole market.
  • Public networks carry the risk of cyberattacks and smart contract errors.
  • Rules on tokens and stablecoins are still being written. In the UK the new FCA regime for cryptoassets comes into force on 25.10.2027.
  • Kinexys services are available only to institutional clients.

Who it affects

Firms with international payments, exporters and importers. Also finance departments, accountants and people working in the financial sector in London, Bournemouth or Scotland.

What it means

Tokenisation of payments and assets is entering mainstream banking. Firms that put their payment data and processes in order today will find it easier to use new services when they become available to smaller clients.

How to prepare

  • Check how much international transfers cost you today and how long they take.
  • Ask your bank whether it plans token-based settlement or 24/7 payments for businesses.
  • Check any firm offering cryptoasset services in the UK on the FCA register.

What to watch

  • The bank’s Q4 2026 results (January 2027).
  • Progress on building the new Canary Wharf headquarters.
  • Further networks and currencies for JPM Coin, possibly including sterling.
  • Final FCA and Bank of England rules for tokens and stablecoins.
