Marks & Spencer (M&S) announced on 28 October 2026 the first recruitment drive for its new fashion, home and beauty distribution centre in Lichfield, Staffordshire. The 437,000 sq ft warehouse will be fully automated. It will open next year.
The first wave includes more than 70 vacancies. These are management, operational and specialist roles, including planners, team managers and technicians. Once the centre is fully operational it is expected to employ around 600 people. The company did not give pay rates.
A new M&S food store is also being built in Lichfield at St John’s Grange (Baker Way), covering 15,800 sq ft. It is due to open in March and create 70 new jobs. Recruitment for roles such as Shift Lead and Customer Assistant is due to start within a few weeks. People can already register their interest.
What it means for you
This is a real opportunity for people living in the Midlands, including many Poles working in logistics and warehousing. Automation means fewer simple manual jobs and more technical and supervisory roles. Experience with warehouse systems, forklifts or maintenance could be a major advantage here. For small Polish firms in the region – transport, cleaning or service companies – the new centre could mean contracts in the supply chain.
Our assessment
Large logistics centres are today one of the most reliable sources of stable work outside the big cities. We think it is worth applying early, because the first roles are mainly managerial and technical, and the team is built around them. The remaining vacancies will come closer to the centre’s opening. The lack of information on pay is a minus – it is worth asking about it at interview.
