Fuel is getting cheaper in Poland: lower maximum prices from Tuesday – 6.79 zł for 95 petrol

Poland's energy minister has cut the maximum fuel prices in force from Tuesday 20 October: 95 petrol – 6.79 zł, 98 petrol – 7.56 zł, diesel – 7.97 zł a litre. The “Ceny Paliwa Niżej” programme is set to run until the end of 2026.

Update 21.10.2026, 08:28: From Wednesday 21 October new maximum prices apply: 95 petrol – 6.70 zł/l (down 9 groszy), 98 petrol – 7.43 zł/l (down 13 groszy), diesel – 7.98 zł/l (up 1 grosz). They were announced by the energy minister.

From Tuesday 20 October 2026 lower maximum fuel prices apply at Polish filling stations: 95 petrol – 6.79 zł/l, 98 petrol – 7.56 zł/l, diesel – 7.97 zł/l. Until Monday 19 October the limits were 6.89 zł, 7.68 zł and 8.00 zł respectively. The rates are announced by the energy minister in a notice in Monitor Polski.

The mechanism operates under the “Ceny Paliwa Niżej” (Lower Fuel Prices, CPN) programme, a response to the rise in oil prices linked to the US and Israeli war with Iran. The first round began at the end of March and lasted until the end of June, the second from 17 to 31 August. The current edition is due to run until the end of 2026 and includes a temporary cut in VAT and excise duty on petrol and diesel as well as maximum prices.

The cost of the package to the end of the year could reach about 5 billion zł. It is to be partly funded by a windfall tax on fuel companies – President Karol Nawrocki has allowed that law to take effect. Any extension of the programme will be decided in December by Finance and Economy Minister Andrzej Domański.

Editorial comment

For Polish hauliers and drivers travelling between the UK and Poland this is a real saving: filling up with diesel in Poland is clearly cheaper than in the UK. At the same time the programme is temporary – after 31 December 2026 prices could jump if the government does not extend it, and that is also when the UK fuel duty freeze ends. Transport firms should plan costs for early 2027 cautiously.

What to do

  • If your vehicles travel to Poland, plan to refuel on the Polish side and check the limits on carrying fuel in jerrycans.
  • When pricing UK–PL runs for 2027, allow for the possible end of the VAT and excise cuts.
  • Keep fuel invoices from Poland – you will need them for your business expenses.
  • Follow December’s decision on extending the CPN programme.
