Settled and pre-settled status remains valid, even if it is linked to a passport that has expired. However, when you get a new passport or ID card, you should link it to your UKVI account. Your eVisa, which airlines and Border Force check, is connected to it.
How to do it
- Sign in to View and Prove and choose “update your details”.
- Or go straight to Update your UK Visas and Immigration account details.
- When you sign in you will receive a code by phone or email. Make sure you keep access to at least one of them.
The same service lets you change your name, photo and contact details.
What it means for you
- Families: check the accounts of all family members, including children who have received a new passport.
- Workers: your employer checks your right to work using the data in this system.
Our assessment
It takes a few minutes and saves stress at the airport and when changing jobs. An out-of-date document in the system can delay check-in or a right-to-work check.
What to do
- Update your UKVI account after every passport or ID card renewal.
- Keep a safe record of the email address and phone number linked to your account.
