On 21 October 2026 Statistics Poland (GUS) reported that the current consumer confidence indicator (BWUK) stood at -14.0 points in October. That is 3.2 points lower than in September and 3.1 points lower than a year ago. The leading indicator (WWUK), which reflects plans and expectations, fell to -10.6 points.
All components are lower than a month earlier. Assessments of Poland’s future economic situation fell most (by 7.6 points), followed by the country’s current situation (by 6.9 points). The assessment of the scope for major purchases fell by 1.3 points. Assessments of household finances changed little. The survey was conducted from 5 to 14 October among 1,369 people.
Editorial comment
People take a dimmer view of the country than of their own wallet. One may suppose – this is our assessment, not GUS data – that fuel prices (diesel above 8 zł again) and global tensions are having an effect. For Polish businesses in the UK selling to Poland, it is a sign that customers may put off larger purchases.
What to do
- Exporters to Poland: prepare cheaper versions of your offer and flexible payment options.
- Watch the GUS retail sales data for September – scheduled for 22 October.
- When planning transfers to Poland, follow the pound-to-złoty exchange rate.
