Peterborough is one of the English cities with a large Polish community. In October the city council announced several changes that matter to families and business owners.
What’s new
- “Here to Help” – help in one place. In November a new online tool launches where residents can find information about the help available. It is meant for those who do not know where to turn.
- Baby Week 2026. Family Hubs are running free sessions for young children and parents built around talking, playing and reading together.
- Christmas swap. In November there will be a free swap where you can pick up Christmas jumpers and toys.
- Parking on Northfield Road. Comments on the proposed parking restrictions can be submitted until 12 November 2026.
- Taxis and private hire. A new taxi and private hire licensing policy will go out to public consultation.
What it means for you
- Families with young children: free sessions are a good chance for a child to get used to English before nursery.
- People in difficulty: the new tool should make it easier to find help, including with bills and housing.
- Taxi and private hire drivers: if you work in this sector, the consultation is your moment to influence the new rules.
Editorial comment
Many people learn about local changes only from a fine or a new set of rules. The consultation is open to every resident – you do not need British citizenship.
What to do
- Follow the city council website and sign up for its newsletter.
- If you drive a taxi or private hire vehicle, take part in the consultation on the new licensing policy.
- Live on Northfield Road? Submit your comments by 12 November.
