Tuesday’s evening forecast from the Met Office shows the country split in two. In the north and west it is still raining and very windy. In the south-east it is dry, and skies will clear overnight.
Overnight, showers in Scotland will merge into a longer spell of rain. Later the rain will reach northern England and North Wales. Overnight temperatures will range from 7 to 12°C.
On Wednesday morning it will be cloudy and wet in the north-west. Persistent rain will continue in northern England and Wales. In the afternoon it will break up into shorter showers in the south-west. The forecast is presented by Alex Burkill.
What it means for you
If you are commuting to work in Scotland, northern England or Wales on Wednesday morning, expect wet roads and slower traffic. In London and the south-east the morning should be calmer. Transport and construction firms in the north should plan their work with time to spare.
Our assessment
This is not a storm, but after several windy days the ground is wet and roads can flood. We think it is worth checking the hourly forecast just before leaving home, because the band of rain may move faster or slower.
What to do
- Check the forecast for your postcode and the warnings on the Met Office website.
- Before travelling by train, check disruption on National Rail.
- Give children a waterproof jacket and a warm layer for school.
