Atlanta, 30–31 October 2026: what G20 foreign ministers agreed
G20 foreign ministers met in Atlanta, Georgia. According to the Chair’s Statement issued on 31 October by the Office of the Spokesperson of the US Department of State, the US presidency wants to take the G20 “back to basics” – the economy and people’s standard of living.
- Energy security. Energy should be abundant and affordable. Every country has the right to choose its own energy sources. Small modular reactors were mentioned as one way to meet growing electricity demand.
- Supply chains. Fertiliser, raw materials and critical minerals. Governments should share information, simplify permitting and work with the private sector.
- Geopolitical tensions. Safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab al-Mandab. Trade in food should not be used as a tool of political coercion.
- Ebola. USD 2 billion raised in New York in September to fight the outbreak.
- What next. The Leaders’ Summit in Miami on 14–15 December 2026. In 2027 the United Kingdom takes over the G20 presidency.

What it means for Poles in the UK
The most important news for the Polish community: in 2027 the G20 moves to the United Kingdom. This is a chance for Polish businesses in the UK to take part in economic events and make business contacts at home, without travelling. The topics discussed in Atlanta – energy prices and supply chains – feed directly into household bills and business costs.
Risk matrix
| Risk | Likelihood | Impact on Poles in the UK | What to do |
|---|---|---|---|
| Higher energy prices after disruption on shipping routes (Hormuz, Bab al-Mandab) | Medium | High – gas, electricity and fuel bills | Check your tariff and the Ofgem price cap; compare suppliers before winter |
| Disruption to supplies of fertiliser and raw materials | Medium | Medium – food prices, delays for businesses | Businesses: keep stock of key materials, line up a second supplier |
| Food used as a tool of pressure between states | Low | Medium – shop prices | Plan the household budget with a margin |
| UK presidency of the G20 in 2027 | Certain | Opportunity – events and contacts in the UK | Polish businesses: follow the G20 2027 calendar and apply for business events |
