Poland’s Ministry of Digital Affairs has summed up the development of the mObywatel app. According to an announcement of 23 October 2026, about 13.5 million people use it. There are about 2 million logins every day.
Over 30 months the app has gained 106 new features, more than 50 services and more than 50 digital documents. Among other things, you can register a child’s birth, set up a business, sign documents and write to public offices. Digital ID cards for doctors, nurses and teachers have also been added.
Drivers have checked their penalty points in the app more than 31 million times. The Check Insurance service has been used more than a million times. More than 25,000 digital accident statements have been filed in mStłuczka.
Support Portal from 2027
In 2027 a Support Portal is due to launch in the app and on mObywatel.gov.pl. It will be used to back candidates and lists electronically before they are registered for elections. This is not online voting. Using it will be voluntary, and paper signature lists will remain. The system will check the right to vote and the constituency in the Central Register of Voters. Committees will see only the number of signatures, without personal data.
The ministry and the Central IT Centre are also preparing the European Digital Identity Wallet. It is intended to make it easier to confirm identity in EU countries. 61 companies and institutions, including 18 from outside Poland, have signed up for tests (“mObywatel Europa”). The plans were presented by Deputy Prime Minister and Digital Affairs Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski and Deputy Minister Dariusz Standerski.
What it means for you
- Poles in the UK can handle more and more matters in Poland from their phone, without visiting an office.
- Parents can, among other things, register a child’s birth in the app.
- Entrepreneurs can set up a business and sign documents through the app.
Our assessment
mObywatel is now the main gateway to the Polish administration. The Support Portal will make collecting signatures easier, but it does not change the voting rules. The announcement does not say how Poles living abroad will be able to use the new services. It is worth waiting for details before relying on them. The European wallet will work in the EU – the United Kingdom is not a member.
What to do
- Update the mObywatel app and check the list of services at gov.pl/web/mobywatel.
- Make sure you have an active Trusted Profile or another way of logging in – without it some services will not work.
- Before visiting a consulate, check whether the matter can be handled online.
