In October Polish companies assessed business conditions as worse than or the same as in September. According to Statistics Poland (GUS), the financial sector scores best (plus 29.4) and manufacturing worst (minus 6.6). Forecasts fell most in construction and current assessments in hospitality.
HMRC’s October bulletin reminds employers that November’s PAYE payment must arrive by 20 November, because 22 November is a Sunday. From April 2027 company cars and medical cover move into payroll, and from 30 October firms must actively prevent harassment at work.
Poland and Vietnam raised their relations to a strategic partnership during Donald Tusk’s visit to Hanoi. The countries aim to reach $6 billion of mutual investment by 2030, Vietnam will consider visa-free travel for Poles, and LOT plans a direct Warsaw–Hanoi route in Q1 2027.
Poland’s Sejm has passed a new PIT scale from 2027: 12% up to PLN 130,000, 24% up to PLN 150,000 and 32% above. The flat-rate tax limit falls from €2 million to €250,000, and the solidarity levy rises to 5%. MPs struck out the CIT rise to 22%. The bill has gone to the Senate.
The Prime Minister’s Office has announced an extra £432 million to tackle rough sleeping in England, £874 million in total by the end of this Parliament. The aim is for every person sleeping rough to be offered a route off the streets before Christmas. The sum is to be confirmed in Wednesday’s Budget.
On Wednesday Chancellor John Healey will present his first Budget. We believe that for small Polish businesses in the UK the most important thing is not any single tax rate but predictability: a clear statement of what the government will not touch until the end of this Parliament. Without that, firms will not hire or invest.
Pupils from Reception to Year 11, children aged 2 and 3, pregnant women, people aged 65+ and carers can get the flu vaccine free on the NHS. New this year: some pharmacies will vaccinate children in risk groups, and from December also pupils who missed their vaccination at school.
HMRC may get the power to collect unpaid tax directly from bank and savings accounts, including for small debts. According to The Times, the change is to appear in the Budget on 28 October. Today the threshold is a debt of £1,000, and at least £5,000 must remain in the accounts.
Storm Boelo hit Scotland hardest on Sunday. More than 82,000 homes lost power, the A82, A83 and A75 and several rail lines were closed, and a man died in Dumfries and Galloway. The Met Office warns of further strong winds on Monday and Tuesday.
Chancellor John Healey has announced a package of investment in artificial intelligence ahead of the Budget on 28 October. Businesses can look to £30 million of local AI partnerships, a £25 million competition and a larger Sovereign AI Fund. There are no new obligations for businesses.
