In February, after a tram derailment in Sarajevo, young people took to the streets and forced the cantonal prime minister to resign. The autumn is calm.

On 12 February 2026 a tram derailed in Sarajevo – one person was killed and four injured. Mainly young people took to the streets, demanding that those responsible be held to account. Three days later Sarajevo Canton Prime Minister Nihad Uk resigned.

Earlier, students in Sarajevo protested after a tragic flood and a landslide from an illegal quarry in autumn 2024, demanding transparency and accountability from institutions.

Now

A general election was held in Bosnia and Herzegovina on 4 October 2026. As at 23 October there are no reports of violent youth protests.
