Cut emissions, increase efficiency, lower costs

By tackling key areas such as energy, transport, waste, supply chains and operational behaviour, companies can make significant progress in reducing their carbon footprint while lowering costs and improving efficiency.

At member events we run practical skills workshops, study visits and green technology showcases – solutions in these key areas.

01 · Energy

Energy management

Energy use is one of the quickest opportunities for businesses to cut emissions and lower costs. By optimising energy use through efficiency upgrades, switching to renewables and smarter monitoring systems, companies can significantly reduce their carbon footprint while enjoying long-term savings. Less reliance on high-carbon energy sources not only improves environmental performance but also increases resilience to rising and volatile energy prices.

02 · Transport

Transport efficiency

Transport makes up a large share of business emissions – covering staff travel, logistics and fleet operations. Improving transport efficiency through vehicle electrification, changes to staff commuting, route optimisation, modal shift or reducing the need to travel can bring significant emission reductions. At the same time, businesses gain operational benefits such as lower fuel costs, greater reliability and streamlined mobility practices – all of which strengthen long-term competitiveness.

IT equipment recovery – circular economy

03 · Waste and circularity

Waste management and circular economy best practice

Good waste management and circular economy practices let businesses get more value from resources with minimal environmental impact. By reducing waste at source, increasing reuse and introducing recycling or closed-loop systems, organisations can significantly cut emissions linked to materials and disposal. These practices also lower purchasing, waste collection and landfill costs, while encouraging innovation in resource-efficient design and operations.

Follow upcoming webinars, best-practice workshops and visits to recycling facilities, ITAD companies (IT asset disposition) and food redistribution organisations.

04 · Supply chain

Supply chain management

Supply chains often account for the largest share of a company’s total emissions, making them a key area for real climate action. Engaging suppliers, increasing transparency and choosing low-carbon materials and partners can dramatically reduce indirect (Scope 3) emissions. Strengthening sustainability across the supply chain not only improves environmental performance but can also reduce risk, increase reliability and bring improvements that lower costs over the long term.

Follow upcoming best-practice webinars and workshops, as well as visits to providers of sustainable supply chain management solutions.

Operational efficiency in the workplace

05 · Leadership

Sustainability leadership

Everyday workplace behaviours and practices have a huge impact on a company’s carbon footprint. Encouraging energy saving, reducing unnecessary consumption, introducing preventive maintenance and building sustainability into routine decision-making can together deliver significant efficiency gains. When employees are empowered to adopt sustainable practices, the company benefits from lower operating costs, better performance and a stronger culture of environmental responsibility.

THE BUSINESS TIME’s view

These five areas are exactly where Polish businesses in the UK – in construction, transport, manufacturing, retail and services – most often lose money. Energy bills, fuel for a van fleet, waste collection and landfill charges, material purchases: each of these items is both a cost and a source of emissions.

That is why we always start with the numbers. First, the free carbon footprint calculator shows where the company emits the most. Then we choose one or two areas where change pays back quickly – e.g. energy monitoring, route planning, waste separation at source. Finally, we help show the results to customers: on the website, on social media and in tenders.

Large customers in the UK increasingly ask subcontractors about supply chain (Scope 3) emissions. A Polish company with a ready answer becomes a “no-risk” supplier – and that is a real advantage.
